Values have been an important topic in academic literature for a long time; they are at the core of institutional theories and are often connected to ideals in organisations or ways of valuing. The various values-constructs are typically highlighted to underpin discussions of identity, ethos, and the purposive institutional work of leaders and employees. However, there is a need for more research on how values link and sustain actions and institutions. Contributors in this volume map and discuss useful methodological ways in which values and values work can be investigated and how research on values has been and can be applied. The chapters present different methods for collecting data, including interviews, observation and shadowing, as well as various methods for analyzing data, such as thematic, discourse and narrative analysis. Chapters also consider the role of the researcher and participant validation as a procedure to enhance the trustworthiness of the study.     On the Need of Conviviality : Experiences of Religious Diversity of Nordic Youth

    This article studies young people’s experiences of religious diversity in two Nordic localities in Finland and in Norway. In the Nordic discourse, the concept of conviviality gained importance through the LWF´s policy document Seeking Conviviality in 2013. Haugen’s three “Rs”, respect, relationality and reciprocity will be used as a starting point for the analysis of the experiences of young people. The aim of the study is to understand how young people experience religious diversity and what these experiences can contribute to Haugen’s reformulation of conviviality. The results show that conviviality tends to be more easily discussed than practised. They indicate that living in the same neighbourhood with youth from other religious traditions helps to face religious diversity but that this coexistence does not in itself generate reciprocity. Rather, in order to really live together there is a need to get to know each other’s practices and values more deeply.Non Peer reviewe

The book as such distinguishes itself as a first major international scholarly endeavor to explore the contemporary phenomenon of youth marginalization from a concerted interdisciplinary faith-based organizational interest. While the exploration of concepts such as NEET (an acronym for young people not in education, employment or training), social cohesion and FBOs constitutes an important point of departure, the book's essential contribution lies in the empirical work undertaken. In six case studies, conducted respectively in locations in South Africa, Finland and Norway, the authors make a deliberate attempt to give a voice to the young people with whom interviews were conducted. The result is a scholarly work that in its discussions and conclusions is both critical and appreciative of the involvement of FBOs in the lives of marginalized youths but also the research achievement itself. Perspectives that recognize the meaningful presence of FBOs in the lives and lived religion of many young people at the margins are presented, while authors do not shy away either from highlighting the shortcomings of FBOs to work more purposefully with young people in overcoming the conditions conducive to their marginalization. Ultimately, however, this book does not confine itself to a critical perspective on FBOs alone but through the contribution of some of its authors present illuminating insight into what may still be required from the point of view of academic research to participate in larger liberative practices involving young people but also FBOs at the margins of society.publishedVersion247-26

    "Røst" eller "service". Refleksjoner rundt kirkenes rolle som sivilsamfunnsaktør i ”flyktningkrisen”

    Artikkelen spør hva vi kan lære om majoritetskirkenes rolle som sivilsamfunnsaktører når vi analyserer hvordan de agerer i den såkalte ”flyktningkrisen”. Har denne situasjonen ført til forandringer i relasjonen mellom den offentlige sektoren og kirkene? Ser kirkene seg mest som kritisk ”røst”, eller ønsker de å tilby velferdstjenester for flyktninger? For å svare på dette spørsmålet studerer artikkelen hvordan Svenska Kyrkan og Den evangeliske kirke i Tyskland (EKD) presenterer temaet flyktninger på sine sentrale hjemmesider. Studien tar utgangspunkt i de svenske samfunnsforskerne Tommy Lundströms og Fredrik Wijkströms tese om at sivilsamfunnsaktørene holder på å gjennomgå en utvikling fra å være ”røst” til å tilby ”service”. En studie av flyktningsportalene på de to kirkenes sentrale hjemmesider kan ikke påvise en tydelig utvikling fra ”røst” til ”service”. Likevel er Lundström og Wijkströms tese til hjelp for å analysere kirkenes rolleforståelse i den såkalte ”flyktningkrisen”.publishedVersio
